Springbank 10 Year Fino Cask Matured has become increasingly difficult to obtain due to strict allocations from the Campbeltown distillery, but with these aromas and flavors it is worth every penny. This 10-year-old release, launched in November 2025, marks the latest chapter in the distillery’s sherry series. The whisky was matured for four years in classic bourbon casks, providing a solid base of vanilla and sweetness, before spending six years in fino sherry casks, where it developed its distinctive character and complexity.

The nose opens with a fresh and inviting fruitiness. Notes of blood orange and brandy snaps offer a combination of citrus and spiced sweetness, while vanilla custard and tinned fruits add a soft, dessert-like dimension. It is a bouquet that is both lively and elegant, promising a rich experience in the glass.

On the palate, the whisky builds further complexity. Spiced and sweet elements emerge in the form of cinnamon sugar and fresh mint, bringing both warmth and freshness. Praline and morello cherries add a deep, nutty and fruity sweetness, while lemon curd introduces a tangy brightness that balances the whole. The flavor profile is layered and dynamic, with a clear influence from the sherry cask.

The finish is long and rounded, with new nuances appearing. Key lime delivers a crisp citrus note, while associations with classic cola bottles and maple syrup add playful sweetness and a deeper, caramelized tone. The conclusion is harmonious, leaving a memorable balance of freshness, sweetness and spiced warmth.

This edition of Local Barley has been made from Bere barley grown exclusively at Clachkiel Farm. The use of this ancient barley variety gives the whisky a distinctive profile, showcasing Springbank’s dedication to tradition and terroir. Matured and bottled at 55.2% ABV, it represents the latest chapter in the celebrated Local Barley series.

Nose
The aroma opens with rich and inviting notes of fig rolls, date syrup, plums and star anise, setting the tone for a complex and layered dram.

Palate
On the palate, a savoury character becomes more pronounced. Flavours of burdock, shiitake mushrooms, tamari soy sauce and liquorice emerge, adding depth and umami-like richness to the whisky’s profile.

Finish
